Luxe for Winter

Having a wardrobe that conveys luxe doesn’t have break the bank. I’m a big believer in looking your best, but spending thousands on an outfit isn’t an option… yet! With winter upon us, what pieces will help you gain the luxe look?

When the temperature starts to drop, a sweater is usually the first piece we reach for to keep us warm. Banana Republic has some great quality sweaters to choose from, whether it’s merino wool or a silk-cashmere blend they have you covered. For my look, I choose a camel color sweater, because it is a neutral palette that is good for daytime or nighttime. I suggest sticking to a neutral color (black, gray, camel, etc.), since they give off a luxe appearance.

Once you’ve picked your sweater, pick the perfect coat to match. Now, coats might cost you a pretty penny, but picking the right one will make it a great investment. Again, I suggest picking a neutral palette that way you’re able to mix it with other items in your wardrobe. For my look, I picked a charcoal colored wool blend topcoat. A topcoat is the perfect coat for a luxe appearance, because you can wear it to the office and hang it over your shoulders for a night out.

Finally, the right shoes and pants are needed to complete the look. In the modern age a fitted look on a man equals clean, so be sure to pick a pair of pants that aren’t baggy. I gave my luxe look some edge by pairing it with black skinny jeans. They give my look a casual touch without diminishing the luxe appearance. If skinny jeans aren’t your cup of tea, try a pair of slim jeans or chinos. Now the shoe is just as important as the clothing you wear. A derby shoe, like the one I’m wearing can add the final touch of luxe to your look. Sneakers and boots are nice, but a dressy shoe is classic luxury.

Looking luxurious doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. Buying the right pieces will help you gain the luxe look for winter, plus confidence doesn’t hurt either.

Will you be rocking the luxe look this winter?

For the working man that’s in the office 9 to 5, there isn’t a big change in the wardrobe for Spring. Sure you lose the long pea coat, gloves, and scarf, but you still have to look presentable. Well here are some tips on how to Spring into the workplace in style.

Spring means warmer days, so switch the nice tailored dress shirt for a sports shirt. A sports shirt comes in a variety of fabrics: linen, chambray, oxford, or denim. The plus side on wearing one of these is that they aren’t perfectly tailored to your body, so you won’t feel uncomfortable in the heat. DKNY offers sports shirts in a variety of fabric and prints for their Spring collection.

Instead of topping off your sports shirt with a blazer, go with a lightweight linen sweater. Banana Republic has a variety of sweaters that can help dress up your sports shirt.

Most of us can’t get away with using shorts in the workplace, so what’s an alternative to dress pants? One word, chinos! Chinos are lightweight and made of twill fabric that are perfect for the warmer days. Topman offers a variety of colors, giving you more options for your wardrobe.

Finally, when it comes to the oxfords, monks, or cap toes you used for Fall and Winter they can usually transition into your Spring wardrobe. Instead of pairing them with long dress socks, lose them, roll up your chinos, and show some ankle.

If you haven’t added any Spring-worthy pieces to your wardrobe, be sure to check out the links I provided. Remember, it’s okay to add prints and patterns to your wardrobe, it is Spring after all.
