Throwback to my May Looks

Standard

DKNY_Fashion_1

May was all about trying to not to sweat in heat. I’m not big on wearing shorts, so I tried to stick to light colors, rolling up my sleeves and jeans and trying not to layer.

For the first look of the month, I decided to wear a light denim shirt with the sleeves rolled and acid washed jeans. The theme was denim on denim with a twist. I felt that two shades of blue denim is the norm, so I went with the acid wash, which is perfect for the weather of spring/summer. My Cole Haan canvas shoes are a stable for my hot weather looks.

DKNY_Baseball_3

With baseball season in full swing, I think my second look was appropriate. As athletic wear has slowly integrated itself into fashion, I figured I would show an example of this. My DKNY baseball shirt is from two spring season ago, but if you’re aware of the trends, sportswear has really influenced streetwear and high-fashion.

Guess Capsule Fashion

My final look for the month featured a capsule collection piece from Guess. This shirt is perfect to wear during the heat, because it’s white and oversized. I find it hard to wear anything tight, especially in hot weather. Always give your body room to breathe, or your shirt might end up soaked.

The unofficially start of summer has already passed, and June is here. I look forward to presenting you my looks for the month!

Denim on Denim

Standard

Denim will never go out of style. It’s been an essential in American wardrobe for decades. Once a casual staple, it has transcended across all levels of fashion. From streetwear to high-fashion, you will find denim just about anywhere, including my wardrobe.

As my personal style has become more streetwear inspired, I have embraced denim in my everyday looks. There was a time were I strayed away from it and stuck to chinos and khakis, but I have obviously snapped out of that. So much so that I now dare to wear denim on denim!

DKNY denim

Now with the hotter days of spring and summer among us, it can be hard to imagine wearing denim jeans and shirts. Trust me when I say I reach for my thinnest tee and pray that I don’t sweat through it. However, there are times when a tee might not be the best thing to wear for the occasion.

My featured look is one way to rock that denim on denim look for spring. My denim button up is one of the spring pieces from DKNY that I needed in my wardrobe. To help balance style and comfort, I rolled up my sleeves so that my arms could breathe. Another way to wear this look would be over your favorite tee. My denim shirt only cost about $45, but you can find a similar shirt for a lower price at H&M.

DKNY men denim

Instead of going with a different shade of blue for my denim jeans, I went with a pair of rolled up, bleached DKNY jeans I purchased a few years ago. Now a darker shade of blue would’ve been acceptable, but I wanted my shirt to stand out. Just be sure your denim on denim isn’t too matchy, or you’ll end up looking like Britney and Justin at the 2001 American Music Awards.

I did however end up adding some more blue with my Cole Haan canvas shoes. They are a pair I don’t normally wear, because they are from my preppy era, but they went with the outfit.

Rayban Glasses

I finished off my look with a staple accessory and a sunny accessory. My tan suede cap was a must, not only because it’s a signature of mine, but the color complimented the look. And on the sunny day I experienced this past weekend, I needed my Ray Ban Original Wayfarers to block out the rays.

If you’re wanting to try the denim on denim look for spring, consider something similar to my look. Just don’t forget to wear different shades or colors of denim, so that the denim won’t be overbearing!

Cole Haan Grant Drivers

The weather has been back and forth recently, one day it’s hot and the next it’s cold. In Texas that’s the norm, but let’s not forget that spring is around the corner. With warmer weather coming that means we can ditch the combat boots or Chelsea boots for a pair of moccasins(drivers).

I’ve mentioned in earlier post that before I became a shoe addict, I  used the usual low top black and white converse (which I still use). However, recently I have learned the wonders of the moccasin.

The moccasin is the perfect shoe to wear on a sunny 70 degree spring day. They are comfortable, sock free shoes that can be worn with a pair or jeans, chinos, or a suit.

I recommend getting a pair of the Grant driver moccasins from Cole Haan. They are made of good quality leather and will last you a good amount of time. If you’re near an outlet you can get them for 30 to 50 percent off the retail price.

What do you think of the moccasin? Leave a comment below.

Grandspring Wing II Oxfords-Cole Haan

Today, I am featuring my newest pair of dress shoes, the Cole Haan Grandsprint Wing II. I love Cole Haan shoes, but have been hesitant to buy shoes from their Grandsprint, Lunargrand, or Zerogrand collections. However, upon buying these I am now wanting a pair of Lunargrands and Zerogrands.

So what makes shoes from these three lines different? They are a hybrid of dress shoe and comfort. They usually contain a leather, suede, or nylon upper and a rubber sole.

This technology of sorts originated when Nike owned the brand. It integrated their Nike lunarlon and air technology into their dress shoes to add comfort. In 2012, Nike sold its stake in the brand, but Cole Haan has continued the innovation of the dress shoe.

These hybrid shoes have really caught on with the fashionable men of the world. You can find pictures of these shoes all over Instagram and Twitter. I always thought they looked cool, but never thought I could pull them off. I visited one of their stores and put on my first pair and the rest is history.

I do recommend that every man goes out and buy at least one pair of these shoes. They are the best of both worlds, style and comfort. Now their shoes are on the pricey side, they retail anywhere between $198 to $268. However, be on the lookout because they usually have sales on their website 25% to 40% off, or visit an outlet store like I did. I got my pair for about $83, which saved me about $115.

Well that’s all for me today my friends, I hope my information on these shoes was useful. Please feel free to comment below or follow me on Instagram at @guylovesfashion or on Twitter at @randerzzz.

Until next time, stay classy!

Monk Strap Dress Shoe-Cole Haan

Skinny Jeans- H&M

This is a perfect example of how to sport a street wear look with some nice dress shoes. The combination is great for the streets or for a night out on the town.

Dress shoes add a sense of class to your casual wardrobe. I went with a Cole Haan monk strap for my outfit, but wingtip or plain oxfords are other options you can choose from. I recommend wearing a pair that will make your outfit pop, but that compliments what you are wearing.

Check out Cole Haan, they have an assortment of different shoes, and I’m sure you’ll find a pair that will match your current wardrobe.
