Workwear for Creatives

Work look

Working at a digital marketing firm, dressing appropriately doesn’t mean wearing a suit and tie. Now, even though a suit is great, my type of dressing up doesn’t alway fit that standard. I enjoy wearing a nice pair of slim fit khakis with the cuffs rolled up and some funky socks. It’s great that I can rock this look majority of the time. Sure, when you’re meeting with clients it’s a requirement to wear business attire. However, on the days you have no meetings, try something similar to the outfit I wore this past week.

Gingham

I paired my khakis and socks with a lightweight gingham button down shirt, a timeless pattern that’s perfect for summer. With the summer heat just getting started, it’s best to stick to lighter colors and lightweight fabrics. Adult jobs usually don’t allow you to wear shorts to work, so this is a great way to keep cool.

Messenger Bag

I finished my workwear off with leather, lots of leather! My asos suede shoes and an awesome leather laptop bag from Aldo. Note, a nice bag leather bag gives you a “ready to kick butt at work” look.

If you get a chance, try loosen up your workwear. If you can’t, try this look on casual Friday or even during the weekend.

Enjoy a Cold, Sunny Day in Style

Pose1

The best days in winter are the days where you get the cold breeze and the sun is out. This weather lets you enjoy the opportunity to step outside and enjoy winter, and not having to worry about wearing layers of coats and/or sweaters.

This Sunday I got to enjoy some time out at the local Japanese Tea Garden here in San Antonio, TX. For the day I wore a sweater and button up shirt combination. My mustard color wool sweater from DKNY kept me warm and let me stand out. On a cold sunny day I find it acceptable to wear some bright colors to go with the mood. I’m an advocate for dark colors for fall and winter, but on a sunny day mix it up.

To compliment my sweater, I wore some funky orange socks from J. Crew and a pair of tan dress shoes from Aldo. For winter I suggest investing in some funky patterned or print socks, you can find them at almost every store nowadays. I’m sure that you can find one to fit your personality or the occasion.

As for the shoes, winter is the perfect time to not only wear leather boots, but to wear some nice dress shoes for a casual time out. Now I’m not saying to bust out your best work shoes, but invest in a nice affordable pair that you can wear during the day or even for a night out. Aldo is a brand that has nice shoes with prices that won’t break the bank.

On the next cold, sunny day, try adding a bright color sweater to your work or casual attire.

Flashback Friday

FullSizeRender-6This winter has been pretty crazy, and with the groundhog having seen its shadow, looks like it will be cold a little while longer. I figured I’d do a Flashback Friday to sunnier days!

This was a picture from spring two years ago, I wore a DKNY button up, Zara man cuffed chinos, and made it casual with some Supra shoes. Here is hoping that come Spring Break, we will have sunny days to enjoy at the beach, lake, or a water park.

Until next time, stay class mi amigos!

The Tie Bar!

Aside from shoes, skinny ties are my other guilty pleasure. Skinny ties have become a staple in men’s fashion for quite some time. A skinny tie will usually range 1-2 1/2 inches in width compared to the 3-3 1/2 inch ties.

I find that the skinny tie is far more versatile than the 3 inch ties. Not only can you wear a skinny tie with a slim fit suit, but with a button up and a pair of jeans.

Now to finish up that casual look for Friday at the workplace add on a funky tie bar.

I snagged this polka dot skinny tie and glasses tie bar from The Tie Bar. This is a great website that delivers quality and has grown in popularity thanks to GQ. I recommend checking their website and looking at their wide variety of ties and tie bars.

Until next time my friends, stay classy!

Denim and Ties

Growing up I was use to seeing people either dressed formal or casual and nothing in between. Today it’s nothing new to see a man wear a button up with denim, but I want to talk about how to make that look even better.

Gone are the days of classic fit dress shirts, classic fit jeans, and chunky dress shoes. If you have these items I suggest donating or throwing them away. Switch the classic fit dress shirt for a slim fit shirt, relaxed denim for slim or skinny jeans, chunky shoes for loafers, and add a skinny tie. Take a look at how the denim and tie concept looks on me below.

Let’s face it, the slim fit dress shirt gives you a clean look that compliments the body. When I worked at DKNY, lots of young customers came in for slim fit dress shirts. I asked a customer once, “what do you personally like about slim fit dress shirts?” He replied by saying that it made his entire outfit look sleek and refined. Next time you are at your favorite retailer, ask an associate to help you pick out a shirt size and colors. My favorite stores to visit for dress shirts are DKNY, Express, and Calvin Klein.

Now in order to have the denim and tie look you need the tie. A slim fit dress shirt is complimented by a slimmer tie, a 2″ or 2 1/2″ tie are perfect sizes for this look. My favorite website to buy ties is The Tie Bar they carry silk, wool, linen, knitted, solid, or printed ties starting at $15. The type of tie you want is all up to you, my only suggestion is to pick one that will balance out with your shirt.

Slim Fit

(Both photos from hm.com)

Now for the denim! I know not all guys are comfortable with skinny jeans, so another option are slim jeans. A slimmer jean, like a slim dress shirt give you a cleaner look. Classic or relaxed denim have a fit that are exaggerated and tend to drag on the floor. Today’s retailers either have a small section for these two types of jeans or have stopped selling them completely. Brands have different perceptions of fits, pick a day to head to the mall and try on denim at different retailers.

All that’s left are the shoes, as a shoe lover this is my favorite part. You have a variety of options when it comes to shoes, but stay away from the chunky shoes. That type of shoe won’t work for a slimmer look and let’s be honest they are hideous. Great shoes to pick are derby shoes or loafers, for my look I went with a black snake skin loafer. Loafers are a perfect example of a shoe that can dressed up or down. I recommend picking a dress loafer instead of a casual loafer, your jean will already give you the casual look. My favorite website to shoe shop are Stacy Adams, Steve Madden, and Cole Haan.

I hope that my tips and photo help you find some similar items. If you have any questions or need help tweet me at @randerzzz or email me at randy_estevanes@yahoo.com. Thank you all for reading and feel free to share, reblog, or forward my blog to your friends. Stay classy my friends!

Long Sleeve Button Up- DKNY, $69.50

Dress Pants- Express, $69.50

Tie and Tie Bar- The Tie Bar, $15 each

Watch-DKNY

Dress Shoes- Tods

I enjoy dress ing up and looking sharp, at the moment I don’t have anywhere to really dress this way and also it’s been HOT! I recommend a look like this for wear to work or a night out on the town.

Accessories are important, invest in a nice watch and a tie bar. If you’re looking for a watch, I suggest looking on Amazon, I have been able to find good deals on there. The Tie Bar is the place to go for buying ties and tie bars, both start out at $15 and up, you can’t beat that price! The Tie Bar has been featured on GQ many times, so you know it’s good.

Hope my TBT gives you some ideas on what to wear for the weekend!

The Derby Shoe!

TGIF! Friday is finally here, it’s time to have some fun. Whether you have a hot date or plan on heading out to a club with friend you always want to look your best. Now you might notice as I continue blogging that shoes are my biggest obsession. I believe that if you have that right shoe, everything else falls into place.

Seeing as it’s the weekend, you might want to lose the sneakers for a polished look. Well gentlemen, look no further than the derby shoe!

Black Derby Shoes- H&M, $29.95

Brown Derby Shoes- Salvatore Ferragamo

If you want to invest in a great shoe, but don’t want anything too loud or decorated, this shoe is for you. The derby shoe is simple but classy, they look good paired with some skinny jeans or rolled up pair of chinos.

One rule I suggest when pairing this shoe with an outfit, always let the shoe standout. If you plan on wearing a grey button up and navy chinos, go with the brown derby shoes. This will let them pop and direct all eyes to your shoes. Trust me when I say you’ll be getting compliments!

The same rule goes with the black derby shoes, if you want them to stand out, pair them up with a nice pair of grey slacks or chinos.

Now derby shoes can be found almost everywhere. H&M has them starting at $29.95, that’s where I got my black pair. If you want to pay more for a good pair that will last you longer, take a look at Cole Haan.

Enjoy your weekend my readers! Stay classy!
