It’s been a pretty gloomy week in south Texas. While, I’m been enjoying the cooler weather, a part of me is missing sunnier days.
An opportunity to help brighten up my day is with my wardrobe. I tend to stick to darker tone during winter, but sometimes you’ve got to add a pop of color.
Now when trying to add a pop of color to your outfit, try not to over do it. One colorful item will make you stand out! For my pop of color look, I added a blue DKNY bomber jacket over a white t-shirt, white leather converse and light washed torn jeans. The white tones of my outfit help my bomber jacket make the statement.
Make your colorful statement in winter with a bright jacket, pair of shoes or a bag!
Last weekend was full of adventure, with a trip with friends to Austin for the Trail of Lights and a night out on Sixth Street that almost led to being kicked out of a bar (bartender’s fault) there wasn’t a dull moment. While the short trip to and from Austin was great, a stroll in the park enjoying a cold, sunny Saturday was a needed highlight.
Even though I’m not the biggest fan of the cold, I do my best to enjoy it. Especially, since I live in south Texas where it’s hot 85 percent of the year. While I tend to stay with darker shades, the sunny day on Saturday called for earthy colors in my wardrobe.
When putting my outfit together, I knew that layers was the way to go. I started with a denim button up and added my mustard colored wool sweater over it, both from DKNY. Since my button up was a lighter denim, I went with a darker denim for my pants.
For footwear, I decided to wear my dark brown Urban Outfitters Chelsea boots, because nothing screams cold weather like a nice pair of boots. To help top off my look, I layered my dark green bomber jacket from Tarjay (Target) to help keep me warm. And keep me warm, the jacket did!
With winter only a few days away, will you still be rocking earthy tones or darker tones?
If you’ve made it past the title, then you know this post is about the Yeezy Boost… the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Beluga 2.0 to be exact. I always planed on buying a pair of Yeezys. However, I would always end up oversleeping or forgetting when they went on sale. Also, some colors just didn’t appeal to me, but these did.
The Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Beluga 2.0 were must haves, because I knew the neutral gray shade would make it a staple for just about any street style look. I wasn’t expecting to love them as much as I did. They’re stylish and comfortable, it also doesn’t hurt that their limited release makes them and every pair of Yeezys unique.
Over the weekend, I got to wear my new shoes for some time out on the town. I paired my Yeezys with a similar shade of DKNY joggers and kept with the neutral tones with a navy DKNY bomber and a green tee from Forever 21.
I’m not the biggest fan of Kanye West, but I admire his fashion sense and his collaboration with Adidas on the Yeezys are is just right! If you haven’t grabbed a pair, I highly recommend trying until you do. They will be a great investment to your wardrobe.
I get excited every year when the cold weather arrives, because it is hot 364 days of the year in south Texas, and I have to enjoy that one day of cold. Okay, I’m slightly exaggerating, but it’s cold for just a few days. As the cold front comes in, I start wear the hoodies, sweaters and jackets that have been put away. I always say I don’t need anymore cold weather clothes, but I always end up buying something new. This year has been no exception.
A week before the Black Friday rush, I found myself doing some window shopping, and came upon my favorite store, DKNY. It had been awhile since I had stepped into the store, and in that first step I saw something I just had to have: a black velour hoodie.
Now to be totally honest, I have been hating on velour anything, but for some reason I fell in love with this velour hoodie at first sight. When I tried it on, it made me want it even more. I guess when your favorite brand does something you hate, you end up loving it.
I got the chance to wear my new velour hoodie over the weekend, and it was the perfect streetwear piece to add to my closet. I paired it with some light grey torn skinny jeans from H&M and my new pair of black and white Old Skool Vans.
The hoodie is great with or without an undershirt. If you plan on wearing an undershirt, try wearing a white or grey longline tee. The color will allow you to balance out the tones, while the length lets your undershirt be seen.
So the morale of this blog post is to never knock a trend without trying it out first!
The hots days of summer just keep on coming, and staying cool is the top priority for everyone. When it comes to wardrobe, most of us will go with a light t-shirt and shorts to keep from sweating too much. The last thing on anyone’s mind is layers, but some fashionistas and fashionistos would disagree. And I think I see myself becoming one.
On several of my shopping adventures, I began to notice that many retailers are beginning to create outerwear pieces throughout the year. Of course, the summer jackets are made of lighter material. Even with lighter options, I didn’t see myself wearing a jacket in this summer heat. Until I stepped into DKNY.
I spotted this nice white hooded anorak jacket, and I immediately tried it on. What really caught my attention was that it looked very different to the anorak and windbreakers that I had seen at other stores. The perforated sleeves were an obvious stand out, I could tell that it was made for the summer months. I’m pretty sure the designer who created was really thinking “How can I convince someone to wear this jacket for summer?”
For someone like me who was effy about using jackets for summer, this DKNY jacket changed my mind. It’s perfect for the cooler summer nights when you want to stand out from the crowd. It goes great with my usual tee and torn jeans summer combination.
If you’re looking to integrating outerwear to your wardrobe, try a lightweight jacket or anorak like the one I bought.
May was all about trying to not to sweat in heat. I’m not big on wearing shorts, so I tried to stick to light colors, rolling up my sleeves and jeans and trying not to layer.
For the first look of the month, I decided to wear a light denim shirt with the sleeves rolled and acid washed jeans. The theme was denim on denim with a twist. I felt that two shades of blue denim is the norm, so I went with the acid wash, which is perfect for the weather of spring/summer. My Cole Haan canvas shoes are a stable for my hot weather looks.
With baseball season in full swing, I think my second look was appropriate. As athletic wear has slowly integrated itself into fashion, I figured I would show an example of this. My DKNY baseball shirt is from two spring season ago, but if you’re aware of the trends, sportswear has really influenced streetwear and high-fashion.
My final look for the month featured a capsule collection piece from Guess. This shirt is perfect to wear during the heat, because it’s white and oversized. I find it hard to wear anything tight, especially in hot weather. Always give your body room to breathe, or your shirt might end up soaked.
The unofficially start of summer has already passed, and June is here. I look forward to presenting you my looks for the month!
When you think of spring fashion, many things come to mind: florals, bold colors, short-sleeves and sun glasses. But what about sports? In recent years, streetwear has grown, becoming popular not only on the streets, but in high-fashion and has gained some inspiration from sports.
My featured piece is a DKNY S/S 2015 baseball tee that was from the last S/S collection under the creative direction of Donna Karan. I’ve mentioned my love for the DKNY brand, and this is still one of my favorite pieces that I own from the legendary brand. It’s a perfect example of the sport infused streetwear we’ve come to know and love. In 2017, sport infused streetwear is still going strong. We see it in spring 2017 designer collections like Hilfiger Edition (rugby polos) and Calvin Klein Collection (football jerseys) to brands like Forever 21.
For my sport infused look, I paired my baseball tee and matching cap with some a streetwear must, torn skinny jeans from Zara. I went with black to match my color theme and layered my baseball tee on top of a white Gap v-neck to compliment the black, while matching the white in my converse.
If you haven’t added a sport infused piece to your spring wardrobe, I suggest giving it a try. Trust me when I say, you’ll be giving off those spring fashion vibes!
