Dallas Adventures and Fashion – Part 2

Pac Sun Shirt-2

I present another look and adventure from my Dallas trip earlier this month. It’s crazy how time flies, it only seems like last weekend I was enjoying my 4-day getaway. Here’s to hoping I get back there soon!

On our last evening in Dallas, we kept exploring the city and came upon the Robert E. Lee Park (I hate the name BTW), which has a nice little waterfall and creek called Turtle Creek. I was expecting to spot a turtle, but that totally didn’t happen. It was another hot day, so I tried staying cool without sacrificing style, which can be a hard thing to do.

Pac Sun Shirt-1

In GuyLovesFashion style, I stuck to black on a hot day, but  short sleeve shirt and torn jeans combination helped alleviate any horrid sweating I would’ve experienced with a long sleeve and pants sans holes. My featured shot sleeve shirt was something I purchased while on our trip from Pac Sun. The print that consisted of lightning bolts, skeleton with cobwebs and an illuminati-esque eyeball are what attracted me to it. Plus, the lightweight material was perfect to combat against the heat.

Pac Sun Shirt-3

I matched my cool new shirt with my favorite pair of black skinny jeans from Zara. I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big fan of shorts. It’s not because I hate my legs or anything, it’s just that shorts are a little too relaxed for my taste. Thank fashion for torn jeans, because they get me through the heat! For accessories, I went with my signature snapback from H&M and my Apple watch.

asos shoes

Now for shoes, I didn’t have to sacrifice style for comfort, because my shoes met the criteria for both. My pink asos sneakers were comfortable to wear throughout our adventures in Dallas. And lets face it, they look so cool!

Dallas was great to me! The sightseeing, nightlife and food made it a great time! Also, I got an opportunity to show off looks I hadn’t featured before.

Now, here’s to hoping to another trip to Dallas in the middle of fall or winter!

Denim on Denim

Standard

Denim will never go out of style. It’s been an essential in American wardrobe for decades. Once a casual staple, it has transcended across all levels of fashion. From streetwear to high-fashion, you will find denim just about anywhere, including my wardrobe.

As my personal style has become more streetwear inspired, I have embraced denim in my everyday looks. There was a time were I strayed away from it and stuck to chinos and khakis, but I have obviously snapped out of that. So much so that I now dare to wear denim on denim!

DKNY denim

Now with the hotter days of spring and summer among us, it can be hard to imagine wearing denim jeans and shirts. Trust me when I say I reach for my thinnest tee and pray that I don’t sweat through it. However, there are times when a tee might not be the best thing to wear for the occasion.

My featured look is one way to rock that denim on denim look for spring. My denim button up is one of the spring pieces from DKNY that I needed in my wardrobe. To help balance style and comfort, I rolled up my sleeves so that my arms could breathe. Another way to wear this look would be over your favorite tee. My denim shirt only cost about $45, but you can find a similar shirt for a lower price at H&M.

DKNY men denim

Instead of going with a different shade of blue for my denim jeans, I went with a pair of rolled up, bleached DKNY jeans I purchased a few years ago. Now a darker shade of blue would’ve been acceptable, but I wanted my shirt to stand out. Just be sure your denim on denim isn’t too matchy, or you’ll end up looking like Britney and Justin at the 2001 American Music Awards.

I did however end up adding some more blue with my Cole Haan canvas shoes. They are a pair I don’t normally wear, because they are from my preppy era, but they went with the outfit.

Rayban Glasses

I finished off my look with a staple accessory and a sunny accessory. My tan suede cap was a must, not only because it’s a signature of mine, but the color complimented the look. And on the sunny day I experienced this past weekend, I needed my Ray Ban Original Wayfarers to block out the rays.

If you’re wanting to try the denim on denim look for spring, consider something similar to my look. Just don’t forget to wear different shades or colors of denim, so that the denim won’t be overbearing!

Workwear for Creatives

Standard

Work look

Working at a digital marketing firm, dressing appropriately doesn’t mean wearing a suit and tie. Now, even though a suit is great, my type of dressing up doesn’t alway fit that standard. I enjoy wearing a nice pair of slim fit khakis with the cuffs rolled up and some funky socks. It’s great that I can rock this look majority of the time. Sure, when you’re meeting with clients it’s a requirement to wear business attire. However, on the days you have no meetings, try something similar to the outfit I wore this past week.

Gingham

I paired my khakis and socks with a lightweight gingham button down shirt, a timeless pattern that’s perfect for summer. With the summer heat just getting started, it’s best to stick to lighter colors and lightweight fabrics. Adult jobs usually don’t allow you to wear shorts to work, so this is a great way to keep cool.

Messenger Bag

I finished my workwear off with leather, lots of leather! My asos suede shoes and an awesome leather laptop bag from Aldo. Note, a nice bag leather bag gives you a “ready to kick butt at work” look.

If you get a chance, try loosen up your workwear. If you can’t, try this look on casual Friday or even during the weekend.

Saint Laurent Made Me Do It!

Standard

I’m a huge believer in fashion on a dime, but sometimes it’s great to invest into some designer pieces that will last you for a couple of years. I’ve always been admired the Saint Laurent look that former creative director Hedi Slimane brought to the fashion house, so I decided to invest into a pair of their Western Jodphur cropped boots.

SaintLaurentBoot

Now their boots range from $895 to $1,295, but thankfully they were having a sale on a pair that I had to have! I was able to purchase these cropped boots in tan suede for $589. Even though that’s still a lot of money, it beats paying $1,000! I looked at it as an investment, with great care they can last met for a couple of years, plus the upper and sole are made of 100 percent leather!

Now in order to get that grunge, streetwear look that Saint Laurent is famous for, I paired my boots with some biker jeans from Zara and a red plaid shirt from Forever 21.

SaintLaurentLook

If you ever plan on investing in a designer piece, I suggest buying a good pair of shoes or a nice bag, because it will go great with your more affordable pieces! Be sure to look out for sales at Saint Laurent or a designer that you admire, you’ll be surprised at the great items they have on sale.

Let me know what you think about my new pair of boots! Or if you agree in investing in designer pieces!

Luxe for Winter

Standard

Having a wardrobe that conveys luxe doesn’t have break the bank. I’m a big believer in looking your best, but spending thousands on an outfit isn’t an option… yet! With winter upon us, what pieces will help you gain the luxe look?

Winterlook2

When the temperature starts to drop, a sweater is usually the first piece we reach for to keep us warm. Banana Republic has some great quality sweaters to choose from, whether it’s merino wool or a silk-cashmere blend they have you covered. For my look, I choose a camel color sweater, because it is a neutral palette that is good for daytime or nighttime. I suggest sticking to a neutral color (black, gray, camel, etc.), since they give off a luxe appearance.

Once you’ve picked your sweater, pick the perfect coat to match. Now, coats might cost you a pretty penny, but picking the right one will make it a great investment. Again, I suggest picking a neutral palette that way you’re able to mix it with other items in your wardrobe. For my look, I picked a charcoal colored wool blend topcoat. A topcoat is the perfect coat for a luxe appearance, because you can wear it to the office and hang it over your shoulders for a night out.

Winterlook1

Finally, the right shoes and pants are needed to complete the look. In the modern age a fitted look on a man equals clean, so be sure to pick a pair of pants that aren’t baggy. I gave my luxe look some edge by pairing it with black skinny jeans. They give my look a casual touch without diminishing the luxe appearance. If skinny jeans aren’t your cup of tea, try a pair of slim jeans or chinos. Now the shoe is just as important as the clothing you wear. A derby shoe, like the one I’m wearing can add the final touch of luxe to your look. Sneakers and boots are nice, but a dressy shoe is classic luxury.

Looking luxurious doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. Buying the right pieces will help you gain the luxe look for winter, plus confidence doesn’t hurt either.

Will you be rocking the luxe look this winter?

I’m alive! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I know have been missing in action and I apologize for that. I’ll be getting back on a routine of doing what I love, blogging.

Now let’s get to the topic of conversation, New York Fashion Week: Men’s. Now I won’t be giving you exclusives or behind the scenes scoops, because I’m still a communications intern trying to make it into the world of public relations. I’m going to give you some background information on how it came to be.

For those of you who don’t know, this is the inaugural year for NYFWM. The showcase which launched yesterday, July 13th will run until July 16th. American menswear brands such as Calvin Klein Collection (which previously debuted it’s collection in Milan), Public School, Rag & Bones, and Polo Ralph Lauren will be presenting their Spring/Summer 2015 collection. New York Fashion Week Live has the entire schedule with day and time your favorite brand will premiere it’s collection.

So many of you might be wondering, why did it take so long for men to have their own fashion week? According to Jennie Matthew from Business Insider, “Menswear has seen phenomenal growth in the last six years. Sartorial tastes are more developed than a generation ago.”

In the U.S. alone, online men’s clothing sales have made $9.6 billion. With this growth in sales, The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), saw the potential in launching NYFWM. The showcase will follow the format of NYFW and the men’s fashion weeks of Milan, London, and Paris by taking place twice a year.

It’s great that American menswear is finally getting the platform it deserves. I’ll be looking at the collections as they are premiere and share my favorites with you.

Thank you to my readers for checking up on my blog. Thanks to analytics I know you care. I’ll be back to posting regularly.

Stay classy, mi amigos!
