Casual Weekends

PacSun shirt and New Balance Shoes

After several weekends of cold, rainy weather, this past Sunday the sun finally came out. It was great weather, and I was long overdue for a stroll at the park. I put on my Ray-Ban Wayfarer, and my boyfriend and I hit up the Woodlawn Lake Park for a walk and pics.

I figured it was only fair that my outfit of the day match the casual feels of this sunny and breezy Sunday funday. I’ve never been a fan of horizontal stripes, but this Modern Amusement shirt spoke to me when I found it at PacSun, aka it was on sale. It has surprisingly become a favorite shirt of mine. It’s relaxed fit is perfect for warmer days, and the colored stripes are great for spring.

New Balance Shoes and Torn Jeans

I furthered my relaxed look with slim torn jeans from Forever 21. Now, I tend to stick to skinny jeans, but this pair of pants look pretty good rolled up and the torned loose fit is essential for the hot weather.

I finished off my look with a comfortable pair of New Balance shoes in my favorite color. There’s no shame in dressing for comfort, and a pair of New Balance shoes makes that decision much easier. It doesn’t hurt that they’re perfect for a walk at the park!

With spring officially here, I’m hoping that these sunny, breezy days are here to stay. What will you be wearing for spring?

Black and Camp Shirts

Black PacSun Camp Shirt

Black has been my go-to color of choice for the last few years when it comes to clothing. You’ve probably heard it before but I’l say it again, you can never go wrong with black. It’s perfect for any occasion. If you don’t know whether your going to a dressy or casual get together, wearing something black is a safe bet.

This past weekend, I decided to get just a little experimental with my color of choice. I usually stick to black basic tees, logo tees or button ups, but I stopped by PacSun and fell in love with this cool muertos printed relaxed short sleeve button up camp shirt.

I had tried the camp shirt look before, but I just never cared for the fit. After buying this baby, I realized that the pattern and color makes a huge difference. This camp shirt looked so much better than a white one I had tried on. Now I’ve made a reminder to myself, always try something on several times and in several colors before denying it. I mean the graphic on this camp shirt was just too cool to pass up, and the black was so much more flattering.

I ended up pairing my new shirt with my favorite torn skinny jeans from Zara. I might look back someday and laugh at the fact that my jeans showed off my bare knees, but at the moment they are so streetwear chic!

New Balance Shoes

I finished the look off with my tan New Balance shoes from Urban Outfitters. They are as comfortable as can be and just scream “spring!” I figured they would help balance the prince of darkness look I had going on.

I have a feeling that I’ll be purchasing more camp shirts for spring. Get ready for the new staple in my wardrobe! If you’ve been on the fence with camp shirts like me, try on a couple of different patterns and colors and you might find one that sticks!

Fashion on a Gloomy Day

Zara and Forever 21 winter fashion

Another weekend has come and so has the rain. It seems like the days I want to enjoy keep getting thwarted by gloomy weather. Oh well, I still managed to find time to head out and get the best out of my Saturday. I figured my outfit should fit the emo vibes I was getting from the weather.

After hitting up the local flea market with the love of my life, we headed to one of my favorite parks for some shots before the rain made its returned. To match the gloomy vibes, I decided to stick to darker colors. I kind of looked at the weather as a blessing, cause once spring actually gets here, I will probably sweat buckets when wearing anything dark.

I’ve been obsessed with my distressed olive sweater from Forever 21, I refer to as my “Kanye” sweater. I haven’t been able to wear it much, so I’m glad I got a couple of photos wearing it. If you’re looking for that Yeezy-esque look, I suggest purchasing this sweater or something similar from Forever 21.

I paired my olive sweater with my favorite pair of biker skinny jeans from Zara. As a big fan of Zara, I recommend purchasing a couple of jeans here and there from them. Trust me when I say you’ll be grateful. They may a little pricey ($80ish), but they’ll last and aren’t as expensive when comparing them to designer jeans.

To top of my look, I wore my black cap and signature white leather Converse. I figured the white shoes would help balance the darker tones. Also, I think they photographed better than if I had worn a darker shoe.

Next time you’re wondering what to wear on a gloomy day, just go with the vibe!

Tropical Print for Spring

Tropical Print Bomber Jacket for Spring

I’ve never been one to wear pink, but as my style has evolved I’ve learned to try new things. This past week, I stopped by my local mall. I was doing the usual window shopping until my eyes came across this pink tropical print bomber at Forever 21. Then I heard it, that little voice say, “treat yo’self!”

I felt a struggle inside myself. I was running low on cash, but it was the only one in the entire men’s section. So I did what any young man would do, I gave myself an IOU. Trust me when I say, I have no regrets!

Tropical Print Bomber Jacket for Spring

This bomber jacket is going to be a stable piece in my spring wardrobe. I tried it on with several items and found a few ‘must’ to pair it with.

White to beige will go good with this tropical number. That’s why I choose to pair it with a light beige tee from Pac Sun and my favorite white leather converse. To balance the white, I added some torn skinny jeans.

When it comes to accessories, I recommend sticking to a watch. A tan leather strap would look good, but an Apple Watch doesn’t look bad either.

Once spring is in full swing, you can expect to see me wearing this pink tropical print bomber all the time. Of course, I’ll probably be wearing it with shorts. So if you’re interested in this jacket, I suggest visiting Forever 21 at the mall or online before it’s gone!

Ready for Spring Fashion

Zara jacket

These last few months have been pretty busy, and I’m thankful for every minute! I always have to stop and realize that I’m one of lucky ones, because I’m getting the opportunity to work in public relations and social media. Now I’m challenging myself to get back into keeping up with Guy Loves Fashion and my social media channels.

I’ve been so busy that I didn’t realize how fast the seasons were changing. Winter is nearing its end, and spring is just a few weeks away. And I’ve already made a jumpstart with my fashion. A few weeks, I got to wear this spring ready look on a nice day out in the park in San Antonio.

Zara torn jacket

The piece that really made my look was my torned jean jacket from Zara. This jacket is what I like to call an investment piece, meaning that it cost a pretty penny (Aka $90). Investment pieces are items that will make an outfit pop and can be used for several looks. This is true of my jean jacket, I’ve been able to wear it with some many outfits and I’m still in love!

Skinny jeans from H&M and Converse

I paired my jacket with my signature skinny jeans from H&M and my Converse. As long as I’m young, you’re gonna see me rocking these items. Another item that has quickly become a fave of mine are caps. They really come in handy when you need an accessory to take your look to next level, or dealing with a bad hair day. You find wide variety of caps at H&M under $6!

If you’re looking for items to wear for the spring time, try investing in a nice jacket or accessories.

New York Fashion Week: Men’s

Last fall, men’s fashion designers came together for the first New York Fashion Week: Men’s, which turned out to be a success. This past Monday, men’s fashion designers returned to NYFW: Men’s to show off their spring/summer collection.

If you’re like me, you don’t have access to attending the shows, so how does one get to experience NYFW: Men’s? Articles? Photos? Yes, but how about Snapchat?

NYFW: Men's

Snapchat is providing users a voyeuristic way of experiencing some of the runway shows, backstage shenanigans and a look at the celebrities attending.

My suggestion is to watch the Snapchat story before it’s gone! Watch it and tell me what you think.

Enjoy a Cold, Sunny Day in Style

The best days in winter are the days where you get the cold breeze and the sun is out. This weather lets you enjoy the opportunity to step outside and enjoy winter, and not having to worry about wearing layers of coats and/or sweaters.

This Sunday I got to enjoy some time out at the local Japanese Tea Garden here in San Antonio, TX. For the day I wore a sweater and button up shirt combination. My mustard color wool sweater from DKNY kept me warm and let me stand out. On a cold sunny day I find it acceptable to wear some bright colors to go with the mood. I’m an advocate for dark colors for fall and winter, but on a sunny day mix it up.

To compliment my sweater, I wore some funky orange socks from J. Crew and a pair of tan dress shoes from Aldo. For winter I suggest investing in some funky patterned or print socks, you can find them at almost every store nowadays. I’m sure that you can find one to fit your personality or the occasion.

As for the shoes, winter is the perfect time to not only wear leather boots, but to wear some nice dress shoes for a casual time out. Now I’m not saying to bust out your best work shoes, but invest in a nice affordable pair that you can wear during the day or even for a night out. Aldo is a brand that has nice shoes with prices that won’t break the bank.

On the next cold, sunny day, try adding a bright color sweater to your work or casual attire.

My look: Sweater-DKNY, Button up shirt-American Eagle, Grey skinny chinos-Gap, dress shoes-Aldo.

Luxe for Winter

Having a wardrobe that conveys luxe doesn’t have break the bank. I’m a big believer in looking your best, but spending thousands on an outfit isn’t an option… yet! With winter upon us, what pieces will help you gain the luxe look?

When the temperature starts to drop, a sweater is usually the first piece we reach for to keep us warm. Banana Republic has some great quality sweaters to choose from, whether it’s merino wool or a silk-cashmere blend they have you covered. For my look, I choose a camel color sweater, because it is a neutral palette that is good for daytime or nighttime. I suggest sticking to a neutral color (black, gray, camel, etc.), since they give off a luxe appearance.

Once you’ve picked your sweater, pick the perfect coat to match. Now, coats might cost you a pretty penny, but picking the right one will make it a great investment. Again, I suggest picking a neutral palette that way you’re able to mix it with other items in your wardrobe. For my look, I picked a charcoal colored wool blend topcoat. A topcoat is the perfect coat for a luxe appearance, because you can wear it to the office and hang it over your shoulders for a night out.

Finally, the right shoes and pants are needed to complete the look. In the modern age a fitted look on a man equals clean, so be sure to pick a pair of pants that aren’t baggy. I gave my luxe look some edge by pairing it with black skinny jeans. They give my look a casual touch without diminishing the luxe appearance. If skinny jeans aren’t your cup of tea, try a pair of slim jeans or chinos. Now the shoe is just as important as the clothing you wear. A derby shoe, like the one I’m wearing can add the final touch of luxe to your look. Sneakers and boots are nice, but a dressy shoe is classic luxury.

Looking luxurious doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. Buying the right pieces will help you gain the luxe look for winter, plus confidence doesn’t hurt either.

Will you be rocking the luxe look this winter?

My look: Sweater and topcoat-Banana Republic, black skinny jeans-Forever 21, derby shoes-Salvatore Ferragamo, sunglasses-Ray-Ban

Fall into Green

Shades of green can be found in many designer collections and fast fashion stores, and let me say it has become one of my favorite colors. This olive bomber jacket from Target is affordable and allows you to get in on the trend. It is an olive shade that adds color to an all black wardrobe without being too loud.

The best way to let your new green bomber jacket grab all the attention is to keep everything else at a minimum. Pair it with a black tee from Zara and some black torn jeans from H&M. Try adding a beanie for those cool nights out on the town.

What gets me excited about fall is that you can wear boots and not apologize for it. Spring and summer are hot, but fall is the perfect weather for boots. Pair the look with some Chelsea boots or rugged boots, just like I did.

If you’re looking for a new color and item to add to your wardrobe this fall, make it a bomber jacket in a shade of green!

All Good Things Come to An End

New York Fashion Week: Men’s debuted this past Monday and today marks the end of what is expected to be the next big event in American fashion next to New York Fashion Week.

Including today’s final 13 presentations, more than 40 American labels became a part of history by debuting their Spring/Summer 2016 collections at the first NYFWM.

On Monday, Jackson McKeehan’s Boyswear debuted it S/S 2016 collection, which consisted of graphics, prints, and pop of color. The psychedelic, boyish vibe made an impression on me, but the style might not be for every man.

On the casual side of the spectrum, Nautica debuted swim trunks and shawl collar cardigans for it’s collection.

“To be honest, the last place guys are wearing these shorts are in the water,” said Steve McSween, Nautica’s creative director.

A personal favorite of mine, Public School had it’s models pose like criminals in a line up. The presentation stayed true to the brand’s bad boy streetwear vibe.

The first NYFWM is coming to an end, but with huge support from the fashion industry, expect it to become a staple event just like NYFW.

Stay classy, mi amigos!
