I needed a mental health weekend to clear my mind, so this past weekend included a small getaway to Austin with my boyfriend. This trip to Austin was on my list of things to do before Christmas, because of the annual Austin Trail of Lights at Zilker Metropolitan Park. I’m the first to say I’m not big on holidays but something about Christmas lights brings me solace and happiness.
Each display at the Austin Trail of Lights are by different Austin based companies and are made up of a variety of characters from book characters to pop culture characters. Two of my favorite displays were the Winnie the Pooh and The Little Mermaid. Winnie the Pooh has a special place in my heart, because I grew up watching The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. And The Little Mermaid reminds me of my red headed niece. Another display that caught my eye, was the upside down Christmas trees. It definitely touched on the Keep Austin Weird mantra.
As you walk through the trail, you’ll find three different covered walkways that are perfect for group photos or a selfie, like the one I took. The covered walkways are just a small portion of the 2 million lights that light up the trail. One of the biggest things lighting up the trail is the ferris wheel, which is beautiful, but the long line deterred me from wanting to get on. My boyfriend and I headed straight to the food vendors to grab a delicious funnel cake (not pictured).
After completing the trail, I had to take a picture of it against the Austin skyline. The view was beautiful and it brought me some peace. Basically, my mental health weekend was accomplished! If you need some time to escape and clear you mind, I highly recommend a visit to the Austin Trail of Lights.
The Texas heat has come full force this summer. Some time out and about during the weekend requires an outfit that won’t have you wanting to ditch plans.
My go-to outfit for a hot summer day is all planned around shorts. There was a time that I just couldn’t get with the shorts program. It came down to two reason: I didn’t like my legs, which at this point I’m not self conscious of and the fact that I could never find shorts in a fit I liked.
Men’s fast fashion has come a long way. I feel the it has more ways to go, but the options are much better. I found these mustard colored woven till shorts at Forever 21. I love the fact they are fitted and have some stretch to them. Those were the two things I was looking for in a pair of shorts. I just can’t get behind wearing shorts that go below the knee or that are loose fitting.
I checked online and these shorts are still available and in different colors. I put these shorts on my recommended list. Be sure to get a pair if you’re looking to add more shorts to your summer wardrobe.
I present another look and adventure from my Dallas trip earlier this month. It’s crazy how time flies, it only seems like last weekend I was enjoying my 4-day getaway. Here’s to hoping I get back there soon!
On our last evening in Dallas, we kept exploring the city and came upon the Robert E. Lee Park (I hate the name BTW), which has a nice little waterfall and creek called Turtle Creek. I was expecting to spot a turtle, but that totally didn’t happen. It was another hot day, so I tried staying cool without sacrificing style, which can be a hard thing to do.
In GuyLovesFashion style, I stuck to black on a hot day, but short sleeve shirt and torn jeans combination helped alleviate any horrid sweating I would’ve experienced with a long sleeve and pants sans holes. My featured shot sleeve shirt was something I purchased while on our trip from Pac Sun. The print that consisted of lightning bolts, skeleton with cobwebs and an illuminati-esque eyeball are what attracted me to it. Plus, the lightweight material was perfect to combat against the heat.
I matched my cool new shirt with my favorite pair of black skinny jeans from Zara. I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a big fan of shorts. It’s not because I hate my legs or anything, it’s just that shorts are a little too relaxed for my taste. Thank fashion for torn jeans, because they get me through the heat! For accessories, I went with my signature snapback from H&M and my Apple watch.
Now for shoes, I didn’t have to sacrifice style for comfort, because my shoes met the criteria for both. My pink asos sneakers were comfortable to wear throughout our adventures in Dallas. And lets face it, they look so cool!
Dallas was great to me! The sightseeing, nightlife and food made it a great time! Also, I got an opportunity to show off looks I hadn’t featured before.
Now, here’s to hoping to another trip to Dallas in the middle of fall or winter!
When the summer heat is blazing, casual wear becomes everybody’s best friend! This summer, Texas has been pretty hot with degrees in the triple digits. With this heat, it’s important to stay cool for the summer, and you can do that with a few summer fashion essentials.
Short-sleeved shirt have become my best friend! I used to dislike them, because they reminded me of grandpa shirts. However, that opinion has changed! A thin short-sleeved shirt like this one from H&M will keep you feeling and looking cool. It’s a breathable fabric, so you don’t have to worry about sweating to the extreme. You can purchase a patterned or bright colored short-sleeved from H&M for only $12.99!
To compliment your casual shirt, pick a nice pair of joggers instead of shorts. If you pick the right pair, you won’t be dreading the heat. Find a pair that is made of a thin (but quality) fabric. I paired my shirt with a pair of acid washed joggers from Forever 21. They look like denim, but they are thinner, letting my legs breath. Take a look at Forever 21 for a variety of a affordable joggers.
Now the last thing you need for a cool summer look is a nice pair of casual shoes. A great brand that meets both comfort and cool is New Balance. Their shoes have a supportive midsole that won’t have you regretting wearing them for the entire day. Your feet will thank you for choosing New Balance!
Once you’ve picked a short-sleeved, joggers and a comfortable shoe that’s right for you, you’ll be ready to take on the summer heat!
Let me know what you think of my look and if there are any summer essentials you think I should try.
