My July Look Book

Standard

This hot month was all about going against the norm. I was dressed in black and wore an anorak. Yeah, I’ve never been one for practical fashion. However, toward the end of the month the hot weather got the best of me, and I had to go for a look that wouldn’t have me dying from the heat.

DKNY Men's Jacket

My first featured look was all about my DKNY white anorak. This buy from one of my favorite brands was perfect for summer! The perforated sleeves were an obvious stand out for me, giving it a much more fashion forward look compared to others I had seen.

PacSun_Thrift_Shop

My second look featured my favorite color and a cool thrift find from Buffalo Exchange. Black isn’t a practical color to wear during the hot days, but it’s just perfect to wear. And pairing my look with a new suede button up made for an outfit that’s probably best left for summer nights.

My final look for the month highlighted after work attire perfect for the summer heat. I paired my Topman tee and Urban Outfitters sunflower printed short sleeve button up with some joggers for a perfect outfit that’s ready for hanging out with friends after work. Oh, let’s not forget my cool but comfy New Balance shoes!

With July coming to a close, I’m hoping that August isn’t painfully hot. I can’t wait to start sharing my August looks with you!

After Work Attire!

Standard

After a long day at work, nothing feels better than taking of the work wear and slipping into something more comfortable. Of course, if you have plans to meet some friends for after work plans you might need to forget the sweats and wear something that won’t have people questioning your fashion sense.

With the days getting hotter, you might consider summer apparel that borders on leisure wear without making you seem like your ready for bed. For the hotter days, I’ll out switch my signature torn jeans look for jogger or shorts. In this case, I wore some acid wash jogger from Forever 21 for some subway and walking at the park with my boyfriend.

It became acceptable to integrate joggers into your casual wear a few years ago, and it’s a fashion choice I pick to stay cool. Add a (Topman) tee and layer it with a (Urban Outfitters) short sleeve button up shirt and you have the perfect summer look!

Think my outfit is too casual for after work plans? Switch out denim looking joggers for some khaki or navy joggers. Pair them with darker tone tees and button up shirts for after work attire that’s ready for dinner and/or drinks with friends.

Throwback Summer 2015 Look

Two summers ago, a last minute internship opportunity led me to San Antonio, a place I still call home. I remember summer 2015 was all about my internship, summer classes, housewives marathons and wondering what the future would bring. That summer I also got to reconnect with friends I hadn’t seen in awhile.

My friend Tehua, who I met my freshman year of college at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took these photos that summer. I hadn’t seen her for over 4 years, and we made plans to meet and catch up. Our get-together also turned into a photo session. Her passion for photography and my passion for fashion came together for this throwback look!

Dressing for the Weekend

Standard

Let's go

I live for the weekends! Even more so for the weekend wear. Having a regular 9 to 6 that requires business attire can do that to you. It can be easy to ditch the workwear for sweats, but when heading out with your friends, try adding a couple of these pieces I can’t live without for your fall weekend wear.

Flannel

Flannels have been a stable for me since freshman year of high school (10 years ago). You can’t go wrong with a flannel, but instead of buttoning it up, use it as a layer. As temperature slowly drop, layering your clothes can be a better option than going HAM with sweaters in 70 degree weather.

With my recent obsession of longer length tees, I recommend trying them out. Honestly, I’ve never been a big fan of wearing a plain crew neck T-shirt, but longer length tees have changed my mind. They are more fashionable than typical plain shirts, and they look pretty good layered with a flannel. Find 2 for $30 at Pac Sun. They have a variety of colors and patterns that you can mix and match.

Whole look

Pair your flannel and tee with a good pair of torn jeans. Now I know a good pair of jeans can cost a fortune nowadays, but getting the right pair can be a fashion investment. Zara has a great variety of fashion denim that are similar to what you see on the runway, but don’t have that crazy price tag. Their denim is actually more affordable than brands like True Religion or 7 for all Mankind. Purchase a pair of Zara jeans and take your weekend wear to the next level.

Finish off your weekend look with a good pair of shoes and accessories. For my look I went with some white leather converse, also known as my old faithfuls. Go this route or try a pair of boots. Complete the look with your favorite hat and watch, and your read for the weekend!

When it comes to stepping out, I always prefer to wear a button down shirt. The summer days have been scorching hot in San Antonio, so I’ve traded in my long sleeves for short sleeves.

I tend to gravitate towards printed button downs, because they add personality to any outfit. Trust me when I say, you’ll get more compliments when you opt for a shirt that begs to be noticed.

For this look, I paired my Topman cloud printed shirt with my barely worn Topman puritan hat. On a sunny day, a hat will keep the sun out of your face. Plus, it adds even more of a wow factor to your outfit. I mentioned in a previous post that a man offered to buy my hat from me. That didn’t happen to me this time, but remember that hats will attract compliments or money. It’s always a good thing when someone offers to buy an item from your outfit.

I finished off the look with some gray torn jeans from H&M, a necklace from Aldo, and my favorite pair of Converse.

I’ll be rocking big hats and short sleeves for the remainder of the summer. Will you be doing the same?

Spring Into The Workplace

Sports shirt and cardigan-DKNY

Chinos-Topman

For the working man that’s in the office 9 to 5, there isn’t a big change in the wardrobe for Spring. Sure you lose the long pea coat, gloves, and scarf, but you still have to look presentable. Well here are some tips on how to Spring into the workplace in style.

Spring means warmer days, so switch the nice tailored dress shirt for a sports shirt. A sports shirt comes in a variety of fabrics: linen, chambray, oxford, or denim. The plus side on wearing one of these is that they aren’t perfectly tailored to your body, so you won’t feel uncomfortable in the heat. DKNY offers sports shirts in a variety of fabric and prints for their Spring collection.

Instead of topping off your sports shirt with a blazer, go with a lightweight linen sweater. Banana Republic has a variety of sweaters that can help dress up your sports shirt.

Most of us can’t get away with using shorts in the workplace, so what’s an alternative to dress pants? One word, chinos! Chinos are lightweight and made of twill fabric that are perfect for the warmer days. Topman offers a variety of colors, giving you more options for your wardrobe.

Finally, when it comes to the oxfords, monks, or cap toes you used for Fall and Winter they can usually transition into your Spring wardrobe. Instead of pairing them with long dress socks, lose them, roll up your chinos, and show some ankle.

If you haven’t added any Spring-worthy pieces to your wardrobe, be sure to check out the links I provided. Remember, it’s okay to add prints and patterns to your wardrobe, it is Spring after all.

Graffiti Park

Standard

This past week I got some much needed leisure time in the wonderful city of Austin. I went down famous South Congress street, ate at Hopdoddy Burger Bar, and for the first time visited Graffiti Park at Castle Hills.

IMG_6608

It was a beautiful sunny day in the high 60s, so the first time in a month I was able to wear just a white Gap V-neck. I paired it with some grey torn jeans from H&M, and my new pair of Chelsea boots from Aldo. Towards the evening I added my faux leather Zara bomber jacket to keep warm.

IMG_6609

For accessories I wore a necklace from Aldo and a Topman felted wool hat I got from Nordstrom. The highlight of my day is when a gentleman in a band offered to buy my hat from me. It’s always a good thing when someone offers to buy an item from your outfit.

Be sure to check out Nordstrom and get yourself a felted wool hat. I’m sure you’ll receive lots of compliments and offers to buy your hat as well.
